One Health Centre, Meghalaya
The One Health Centre in Meghalaya is established to foster collaboration across public health, environmental science, veterinary medicine, and data analytics to address complex health challenges at the human-animal-environment interface. This approach aligns with global efforts to prevent and mitigate zoonotic diseases, environmental hazards, and public health crises.Objectives
- Strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration to identify and respond to health threats.
- Monitor and mitigate zoonotic disease transmission.
- Enhance data-driven decision-making for health and environmental sustainability.
- Promote knowledge sharing and capacity building in One Health practices.Role: We are seeking passionate and dedicated individuals to join our team in setting up a groundbreaking One Health Initiative in Meghalaya. This project, a collaborative effort between Selco Foundation and NHM, Meghalaya, aims to establish One Health Center in Shillong by addressing the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health through a multidisciplinary approach.The initiative will focus on various areas, including:
- Zoonotic disease prevention and control: Identifying and addressing diseases that can spread between animals and humans, such as rabies, influenza, and emerging infectious diseases.
- Food safety and hygiene: Promoting safe food handling practices to reduce the risk of foodborne illnesses.
- Environmental health: Addressing environmental factors that impact human health, such as water quality, air pollution, and climate change.
- Community engagement and education: Empowering communities to take ownership of their health and adopt healthy behaviors.By implementing these strategies, the One Health Initiative in Meghalaya aims to improve the overall health and well-being of the State's population.Focus on animal health, zoonotic disease prevention, and animal welfare in the One Health framework.Responsibilities:
- Monitor and control zoonotic diseases in domestic and wild animals.
- Provide expertise on animal husbandry practices and disease prevention.
- Collaborate on integrated human and animal health interventions
- Establishment of Intersectoral coordination with department of Animal Husbandry, Agriculture, Wildlife, urban Development, rural Development etc
- Organize and monitor timely collation, compilation and analysis of surveillance data from the state.
- Regular visits for monitoring the implementation of the project in coordination with the IDSP in the districts
- Supervising monitoring and training state/districts officials and liaison with them.
- Initiate and guide outbreak investigations promptly following the standard operating procedures.
- Support effective operational integration of disease control enforce bases on the surveillance data.
- Coordination regular meeting of the key extra strategic stake holders and assist in Intersectoral coordination for effective IDSP implementations.
Essential Qualifications:
- A graduate in veterinary science and husbandry degree from a recognized university with experience in Public health or veterinary Epidemiology or veterinary medicine.
- Registration In the veterinary Council of India or veterinary Council of states
Experience:
- Three years’ experience in the veterinary public health or epidemiology or animal health
- Relevant experience in public health preferably in disease surveillance and outbreak investigationsAge Limit: Below 50 years Must be agile and willing to travel throughout the State.
