Nagaland has a rich ecosystem of indigenous knowledge, natural resource-based livelihoods, and strong community institutions. However, rural communities continue to face increasing livelihood vulnerabilities due to climate variability, limited access to appropriate technologies, inadequate technical capacities, weak institutional support systems, and challenges in adopting sustainable and climate-resilient livelihood practices.

Solarization through On-Grid (Grid-Tied) – Government Owned Large Cold Storages, Bulk Milk Coolers and Chilling Centres – Baseline Assessment, Site Design, Scheme Unlocking, Demonstration Implementation and Impact Assessment
To reduce electricity costs and enable low-carbon operation at government-owned large cold storages, bulk milk coolers and chilling centres in Karnataka and Maharashtra through grid-tied solar PV — offsetting the existing electricity bill of these facilities without altering their existing refrigeration equipment or operations — and to create a costed, government-ready pathway for scale-up in both states.

The engagement will focus on mentoring community practitioners and producer groups, demonstrating climate-resilient interventions across the honey value chain, documenting best practices, and strengthening local capacities for sustainable honey production and value addition.

Community Innovation Support Program
Communities from resource constraints regions are among the first to experience the impacts of climate change, facing challenges such as declining productivity, resource scarcity, climate variability, labour costs and limited access to affordable and context-appropriate technologies. With nearly 70% of India's population residing in rural areas and over 40% dependent on agriculture and allied sectors for their livelihoods, climate-related shocks such as droughts, heatwaves, and erratic rainfall continue to exacerbate vulnerabilities. These challenges directly affect livelihoods, particularly for farmers, women, youth, artisans, and micro-entrepreneurs.

TOR for Enumerators for Field Data Collection of Livelihood Interventions in Karnataka, Assam, Odisha, Mizoram and Manipur
As part of ongoing and new programs, Selco Foundation will be conducting field-based studies to evaluate program impact and inform decision-making processes.
