This study provides a comprehensive assessment of the current landscape, challenges, and opportunities for Farmers Producer Organizations (FPOs) in Arunachal Pradesh. Conducted covering eight districts of the state from different regions, the study encompassed 20 FPOs and engaged key stakeholders including FPOs, farmer members, government departments, CBBOs, NGOs, and financial institutions. The research employed a mixed-method approach combining surveys, field visits, and interviews to understand the formation, governance, financial health, business practices, and support systems influencing the effectiveness and sustainability of FPOs in the state. The findings reveal that while government and institutional support has played a pivotal role in the formation and early-stage development of FPOs, many continue to face challenges with weak governance & leadership, limited business activities, and inadequate market linkages. A significant number of FPOs remain dependent on promoting institutions, with some of the FPOs demonstrating profitability and prospect of operational sustainability.
