Project title:

Study of indigenous feed materials for pig rearing and mapping with scientific nutritional practices for different geographies of Assam.

About SELCO Foundation:

SELCO Foundation is an open-source research and development organization whose role is to implement solutions to generate learnings that can be replicated in various developing contexts. The piggery value chain at SELCO Foundation aims to demonstrate how sustainable technological innovations and indigenous pig feed formulation is convenient as compared to commercially available feed for the backyard piggery farmer combined with appropriate financial models can lead to a demonstrable increase in resilience and safety nets for backyard piggery grower.

a) Background and context:

SELCO Foundation has deployed various solutions such as pressure pump for cleaning, farrowing crates and lighting for piggery as part of previous need based interventions. With our engagement on ground with the stakeholders (farmers, promoters, experts etc.) and from studies we have known that high input cost for feed is a primary challenge for sustenance of the piggery sector. This exercise is planned to identify locally available resources such Agri waste, byproducts etc. with significant nutrient value that can partially or entirely substitute the commercially available concentrated feed material.

The primary responsibility of the consultants is to submit a compiled qualitative and quantitative deck/standard diet chart regarding fig feed formulation from locally available feed materials for different geographies of Assam. This will be in context to various vernacular practices opted by communities but mapping the nutritional value of such resources with the scientific recommendation of the nutrition requirement.
