The Positive Labour Room Initiative, Nandurbar District, is a district-supported pilot programme to upgrade selected remote sub-centre labour rooms into clinically safe, respectful, climate-resilient and newborn-ready birthing spaces. A Positive Labour Room is a labour room where every woman feels safe, respected, supported and clinically cared for by quality maternity services, while every newborn benefits from immediate essential care, warmth and resuscitation readiness if needed. It is anchored in LaQshya quality standards, Respectful Maternity Care (RMC) principles, WHO intrapartum care guidelines, and IPHS/NQAS norms — and extends them to address the unique climate, cultural and geographic context of Nandurbar.

For smallholder farmers, women's collectives and micro-enterprises, post-harvest processing and value addition are the backbone of their livelihoods — yet they work runs on manual effort, heavy drudgery and lost time. Drying, cooling and processing activities are done by hand, produce spoils quickly, value addition stays out of reach, and farmers are forced to sell raw at low prices. The clean energy technologies that could change this already exist; they simply don't reach the farmers who need them most. When harvest gluts crash prices, farmers have no way to hold produce for later sale, and the processing machines that would let them add value are rarely available locally.

Communities from resource constraints regions are among the first to experience the impacts of climate change, facing challenges such as declining productivity, resource scarcity, climate variability, labour costs and limited access to affordable and context-appropriate technologies. With nearly 70% of India's population residing in rural areas and over 40% dependent on agriculture and allied sectors for their livelihoods, climate-related shocks such as droughts, heatwaves, and erratic rainfall continue to exacerbate vulnerabilities. These challenges directly affect livelihoods, particularly for farmers, women, youth, artisans, and micro-entrepreneurs.
