Background on SELCO's EnergyForHealth program:

The goal of this program is to strengthen delivery of healthcare for over 170 million people by reliably and sustainably powering 25,000 public health facilities in remote, rural, climate and socio-economically vulnerable regions across 11 states in India by 2026.

Healthcare today, without considering the potential services to the un-catered populations in the world, is the 5th most polluting industry. The proposed program can help improve the quality of health services in a decentralized manner, while also making it a less carbon intensive sector. This program can prove to be the low hanging fruit for achieving SDG13 and SDG3 via SDG7. We believe that provision of 100% renewable energy and green building infrastructure for healthcare facilities, will democratize the much needed health services in the remote regions within India and account for future pandemic preparedness.

The Role:

SELCO Foundation is looking for a highly motivated individual who is passionate about working in the overall sustainable energy sector for last mile communities. The broader goal is to use decentralized renewable energy to facilitate good health, improved well being, last mile delivery of health services, reduced mortality etc. through the integration of climate inclusive technologies into the healthcare services.

The Director is expected to focus on formulating and executing a health sector specific strategy for all states, improving performance, procuring resources as well as securing compliances within the organization. You should be willing to build and mentor the entire program team and find ways to increase the quality of output, and implement best practices across all levels. The ideal candidate should be able to further SELCO Foundations work in DRE (Decentralized Renewable Energy) for Healthcare across all geographies and partners.

Key responsibilities for the position:

The Director will coordinate and implement (direct+indirect) solar powering of 25000 health facilities across 11 states in India.

  • Managing end to end direction to the entire program team for developing strategy, operations in planning, execution and monitoring of proposed health facilities.
  • Understanding SELCO’s healthcare approach, focus themes and different sustainable energy technologies / equipment.
  • Identification, engagement, building rapport, coordinating and co-developing programs with key stakeholders such as local communities, government departments, enterprises, financial institutes, NGOs / grassroot organizations for effective implementation of SELCO’s Health Scaling target.
  • Efficient handling of high-profile visitors, Govt partners, policy partners, investors and other stakeholders. Topline responsibility for raising resources, leveraging partnerships and stakeholder buy in.
  • Preparing and managing budgets and cash flows and unlocking finances for renewable energy-based interventions through banks, MFIs, Central and State government schemes for healthcare.
  • Effectively tracking, analyzing and evaluating the performance of the team and solutions on the ground and sharing reports on a weekly / monthly / quarterly basis, the status of various programs by capturing key risks, learnings and challenges. Overall monitoring and evaluation of the quality of implementations.
  • Updating the team's progress to the core team and supporting all documentation required for reporting to funders and stakeholders.
  • Regularly organizing and facilitating training workshops for the team to develop their skills, building their capacity on an individual and team level.
  • Ensuring organizational, operational and assessment processes and guidelines are adhered to and escalating in cases where required.

Who can apply:

  • Minimum 15 years of work experience,supporting senior management and leadership ; work experience in the Healthcare sector will be critical
  • Understanding of the local communities, overall public healthcare ecosystem in the different districts is preferred.
  • Expertise on rural health systems and awareness on Government policies as well as knowledge and understating on grassroots problem identification, clean energy-based enterprises etc will be preferred.
  • Equivalent program management experience in design, development, management of health scale programs in clean energy.
  • Experience in budgeting and forecasting.
  • Demonstrating proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision making capability and ability to work in an interdisciplinary and multicultural environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Willingness to learn, grow and develop at personal and professional front, at a rapid pace with a steep learning curve.
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary and multicultural environment.
  • Willingness to travel extensively in difficult terrains within and outside the State as and when required.
