SELCO Foundation’s mission is to develop holistic solutions that use sustainable energy as a catalyst to address poverty alleviation alongside ensuring environmental sustainability. SELCO's interventions lead to the sustainable delivery of essential services such as healthcare and enable improvements in livelihoods productivity and to date more than 10 million people have been impacted. The foundation does this by also developing enabling conditions, i.e., the ecosystem for sustainable energy innovations to be locally developed, adopted, and scaled. The work is spread across sectors (wellbeing, healthcare, livelihoods), geographies (States across the South, East and Northeastern India) and ecosystem aspects (efficient technologies and built environments, affordable end-user finance, entrepreneur development, inclusive investments and practitioner-driven policies).
Objective | The ‘Homes for LiFE’ program aims to integrate with clean energy, energy efficient, thermally comfortable and affordable model homes designs with PMAY-G guidelines and deployments. Under the program we will be developing and implementing solutions for the affordable housing initiative with a focus on the BLC model for new construction and household upgradation. The objective being to promote a healthy and sustainable way of living for marginalised communities as a key to combating climate change. |

Under the Built Environment initiative of SELCO Foundation, more than 100 energy efficient model homes have been built since 2016. The approach included prioritising durability and adaptability, exploring thermal efficiency in building materials that are long lasting and locally sourced, layouts for optimised ventilation, natural lighting, indoor environment quality and functionality; energy efficient and smart home appliances and solar energy to minimise need for renovations and operational costs and increase user comfort and wellbeing across geographies in remote location facing varied climate and disaster stresses. The ‘Homes for LiFE’ program is conceptualised as an opportunity to now integrate these model homes into housing deployment systems for EWS and LIG communities in Karnataka under PMAY-G, the affordable housing initiative with a focus on the BLC model for new construction and household upgradation.
SELCO Foundation is seeking to onboard an architectural and design consultant for 6 months to anchor aspects of designing solutions and monitoring implementation of climate resilient and energy efficient homes (mix of new construction and renovation in 1-2 districts in Karnataka) under the ‘Homes for LiFE’ program
