Description:

SELCO Foundation was founded in 2010 as a non-profit registered in the city of Bangalore, India. Since its inception SELCO has focused on the creation of a holistic ecosystem to provide reliable energy services for underserved communities. SELCO works to link the benefits of sustainable energy to poverty eradication by collaborating with other NGOs, local financial institutions, education institutions and social enterprises. The philosophy of SELCO Foundation is to create avenues for asset building, enhancement in quality of life and wealth creation through sustainable development solutions. The solution framework adopted by SELCO is to create and implement solutions via a network of Labs which are an open source initiative capable of bringing social innovations to scale.

Agriculture team of SF tries to address the problems of small and marginal farmers through DRE solutions. Low yield, high drudgery, labour shortage, lack of sustainable solutions are the main focus of the team. The team is currently looking for fellows for the following :
    1. Sustainable Agriculture & allied Models and Climate Smart Technology in India and Africa

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Support in Understanding and identifying the different sustainable agriculture and allied models- Agroecology in India and Africa to scope problem statements, find technology gaps and opportunities for DRE (Decentralised Renewable energy) driven intervention across on-farm/ farm resources - post harvest management and other identified practices.
  • Map relevant stakeholders across the concerned sector and develop - maintain positive relationships with them ( NGO partners, Institutions, Universities etc.)
  • To conduct market research, map and profile the technology providers/ manufacturers/CEEs for the identified technology nodal points and coordinate with them for smooth execution of the assigned project.
  • To visit sites/ partner organisations to identify different end user typologies to document package of best practices across the canvas of livelihoods and agriculture sector, especially in areas like Natural farming, Sustainable farming, and Regenerative farming practices in India and Africa
  • To support in undertaking baseline assessment of models (data collection for end user profile, business and financial model) and assist in assessing impact to develop diagnostic report briefs and identify technology gaps with existing challenges in the models for opportunities to reduce drudgery and enhance income with DRE driven technology
  • To strongly plug in for stakeholder consultations and develop actionable insights from data points gathered to bring in key learnings from focused areas of research collaboration

Key Requirements

  • Final year students / Graduates with bachelor's degree in Agricultural Engineering, Extension, Agricultural science and allied disciplines or food processing.
  • Past experience in agroecology and technology driven research preferred
  • Willingness to undertake field visits and interact with different stakeholders and partner organisations
  • Research information analysis, report writing and communication skills.
  • Computer skills : SPSS/ STATA/ Advanced Excel
