About SELCO Foundation and Global SDG7 Hubs

SELCO Foundation, an NGO established in 2010 is working on building a holistic ecosystem for sustainable energy access to inspire and implement socially, financially, and environmentally inclusive solutions for sustainable development and poverty alleviation. The organisation works to create and deploy innovative solutions and demonstrate the role of renewable energy across verticals of well-being, health, education, livelihoods, and built environment. In this regard, SELCO engages in technical, financial, and social innovation, enterprise development, skill building, policy and financial inclusion.

Under SELCO Foundation, Global SDG7 Hubs program is a learning platform to position the UN’s SDG 7 as a critical catalyst for a sustainable and equitable future. The idea is to facilitate productive transfers of local knowledge, local expertise, and networks to catalyze the implementation of pro-poor sustainable energy solutions. The platform is proposed to become a cross-learning platform for sustainable energy and development practitioners across Global South. Currently, SELCO is working with local partners in Tanzania, Ethiopia, Sierra Leone, Burkina Faso, etc. to build them as regional hubs within Sub-Saharan Africa.

Roles & responsibilities for the position:

  • Provide assistance in designing and implementing the research and landscape studies using qualitative and quantitative methods.
  • Identify and support documentation of best practices and lessons learned and relevant stakeholders to maximise the impact of the projects.
  • Interact and coordinate with a multi-country team about Sustainable Energy (SDG7) for Health and Livelihood.
  • Coordinate development and writing of decks, concept notes, project notes, training materials. interactive content (photographs, illustrations, animated video, etc) and case studies from implementations of SDG7 scenarios in various regions and countries.
  • Develop standardised survey tools and other data collection forms for evaluation studies and analyse data and prepare the reports and decks.
  • Manage and deliver content for press releases, media relations content, newsletter content, regular blogs, and updating of communication on the website.
  • Lead and coordinate primary and secondary research, data analysis from multiple sources with respect to the sector or programs across the organisation, and consultations with primary stakeholders (community members, practitioners, and sectoral experts) to validate the information.
  • Anchor and deliver on new and innovative ways to communicate key learnings, concepts, processes and approaches for improved uptake within the organisation and outside.
  • Ensure coordination with other teams within the organisation and provide support to ensure implementation of the ecosystem approach and cross-learning.
  • Clearly comprehend, articulate, and present the available content from multiple documents and resources to streamline it into concise and useful information.

Qualification & Experience

  • Graduate degree in development, social, political, and/or economics sciences or any relevant social science field that includes research methods.
  • Familiarity with research methodologies, tools and analysis for qualitative and quantitative studies.
  • Understanding of global social development, livelihood sector, health sector, and sustainable energy is desirable.
  • Good analytical skills e.g. the ability to derive meaningful relationships in the data to draw meaningful insights using statistical software packages.
  • Efficient use of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint and Visual software skills (e.g. Canva, Adobe Suite or Affinity Suite) are desirable.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills along with an excellent written command to work with international team members from various countries.
  • Willingness to participate in field activities/surveys and travel to remote areas within the region.
