SELCO Foundation is an open source, not for profit organization that engages in field-based R&D and ecosystem building for deployment of clean energy solutions that alleviate poverty in tribal, rural and urban poor areas. The organization works in collaboration with practitioners in the social sector, energy entrepreneurs, NGOs from various developmental sectors and educational institutions to link the benefits of sustainable energy to poverty eradication. The organization works across verticals such as energy access, health, livelihoods with practitioners in the social sector, energy entrepreneurs and partners from various developmental sectors. You can find more information about SELCO Foundation on our organization website.
SELCO is actively working in Pastoral typology, integrating DRE solutions with pastoral livelihood. We are primarily involved in the Dairy, Sheep, and Textile value chains, with DRE serving as the primary catalyst. There is no value chain for sheep, goat, and camel goods. The pastoralists have no way to market their produce. There has never been a greater need for a more exact, streamlined, and lawful value chain structure to guarantee that vulnerable parties are not abused, such as pastoralists in this case. It is also necessary to recognize the applications and benefits of newly found products, since they may provide new sources of revenue for pastoralists. This is not presently happening.
The program aims to further the Energy Ecosystem approach in the Desert bioregion of the global south. Some key program objectives are as follows:
It is expected to work consistently towards achieving the goal of institutionalizing the Energy Ecosystem nexus in the SELCO’s approach and processes by integrating Decentralized Renewable Energy to increase incomes and productivity, improve well-being, and reduce drudgery; involved in the livelihood practices of underserved communities like the pastoral community.
The role is based in SELCO Foundation’s Office at Bangalore and frequent travel to project areas as required. The employee will play a crucial role in bridging the experience of pastoralism and desert ecology in order to achieve maximum impact through the program.
