SELCO Foundation is an open-source, not-for-profit organisation that engages in field-based R&D and ecosystem building for the deployment of clean energy solutions that alleviate poverty in tribal, rural and urban poor areas. The organisation collaborates with practitioners in the social sector, energy entrepreneurs, NGOs from various developmental sectors and educational institutions to link the benefits of sustainable energy to poverty eradication. The organisation works across verticals such as energy access, health, water purification, livelihoods, and enterprise development with practitioners in the social sector, energy entrepreneurs and partners from various developmental sectors.

Job Description:

This position would require the candidate to have strong analytical thinking, writing and interpersonal communication skills.

The candidate should have experience working with research-based organisation/s or implementation-based developmental organization/s. They must have proven expertise in working with datasets and relevant software for analysis (such as Kobo Toolbox, Excel, R, etc.), Monitoring and Evaluation systems, and MIS platforms. A background in both quantitative and qualitative analysis, data cleaning, and various statistical methods is highly valued. The candidate should exhibit written and verbal communication proficiency, presenting complex findings comprehensibly. The candidate should also possess strong problem-solving skills, adhere to research ethics, be adaptable, and be committed to continuous learning. In this role, the candidate would play a key role in ensuring that the organisation's values, philosophy, and key approaches are consistently demonstrated across the work portfolio.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate developing and managing knowledge and outreach materials, such as articles, learning documents, and research pieces. Liaise closely with the Research & Studies + Stage 1 Team. A background in research related to the livelihoods and agriculture sector is desirable, especially in areas like Natural farming, Sustainable farming, and Regenerative farming practices in India and Africa.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of research in sustainable farming and intervention studies, employing qualitative and quantitative methodologies.
  • Identify and support the documentation of best practices and lessons learned. Engage with relevant stakeholders to maximise the project's impact, producing learning briefs, articles, reports, and other written and digital communications.
  • Design survey tools and other data collection instruments for the study. Process the acquired data, analyse it using both qualitative and quantitative approaches, and then compile reports and deck.
  • Assist in developing analytical frameworks for the studies being conducted.
  • Participate in primary data collection from a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Undertake secondary research reviews and deliver their analyses.
  • Analyse data and compile reports based on project requirements. Support programme managers and team leads in data interpretation to convey key insights and to strategise future actions with practical solutions.

Requirements

  • Between 1-3 years of working experience in evaluation and data analytics in social development sector
  • In-depth knowledge of M&E, Research Methodologies, Statistical Analysis, Impact Evaluation, etc
  • Familiarity with research methodologies, tools and analysis for qualitative and quantitative studies
  • Sound knowledge of livelihood and agricultural sector, renewable energy and social development
  • Good analytical skills e.g., the ability to derive meaningful relationships in the data to draw meaningful insights using statistical software packages such as R, Stata
  • Efficient user of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Kobo Toolbox, R, etc
  • Fluency in oral and written English. Proficiency in other languages such as Hindi, Kannada, Odiya, Assamese, Mizo, will be an added advantage
  • Willingness to participate in field activities/surveys and travel to remote areas
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills

  • Has the ability to perform under deadline pressure

Qualification:

Master's degree in development studies, data Sciences, demography studies, or other relevant social science field that includes statistical training and experimental methods
