ToR: Consultant for Documentation of Community Innovation Hubs and Grassroots Innovation Ecosystems

Over the past decade, experience from underserved regions has shown that grassroots innovation is abundant but often remains invisible due to barriers such as limited access to finance, weak networks, language, mentorship, and formal innovation ecosystems. While India's startup ecosystem has expanded significantly, community-driven and locally rooted innovations continue to be underserved. This program aims to identify and map community innovation ecosystems and their key enablers while strengthening decentralized systems that enable innovation for, by, with, and within communities.

Community Innovation Support Program

Communities from resource constraints regions are among the first to experience the impacts of climate change, facing challenges such as declining productivity, resource scarcity, climate variability, labour costs and limited access to affordable and context-appropriate technologies. With nearly 70% of India's population residing in rural areas and over 40% dependent on agriculture and allied sectors for their livelihoods, climate-related shocks such as droughts, heatwaves, and erratic rainfall continue to exacerbate vulnerabilities. These challenges directly affect livelihoods, particularly for farmers, women, youth, artisans, and micro-entrepreneurs.
